. Translation of a letter that was sent by the Austrian emperor [to the sultan]:

We are Charles, by the grace of God, elected, ever-victorious Roman emperor, king of the German lands (Nemçe), the Spanish Indies, Hungary, Czech, Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia, Serbia, and the Two Sicilies; Archduke of Austria; Duke of Burgundy, Brabant, Milano, Styria, Carinthia, Carniola, [? احسورعنیه], and Luxembourg, Württemberg, Upper and Lower Silesia, Swabia; margrave of the Holy Roman Empire, Burgau, Moravia, Upper and Lower Lusatia; count of Habsburg, Flanders, Tyrol, Gorizia, Mezeṭīs(?), Kyburg, and İṣnā(?).

The majestic and august ruler of the Ottoman dynasty, the king of the kings of Rumelia, Anatolia, and other countries, Sultan Ahmed Khan:

Having presented and declared our multiplied and abundant greetings, felicity, and prosperity,

you are notified in a friendly manner [of the following]:

My majestic and august neighbor friend, the exalted ruler of the Ottoman dynasty: The conditions and great benefits of the peace and amity that was concluded and decided on two years ago at the best of times through the mediation of the distinguished plenipotentiaries of the two sides, as before, in a [fashion] worthy of the honor and reputation of the two states has become known to the world. Likewise, that peace and amity are at the moment became evident and unambiguous among the people and it is has been heard [by all].

Accordingly, it is required that the grand ambassadors of both sides shall depart the capitals and each shall set out on the road to their own master so that they can report about the ambassadorial duties they fulfilled.

Accordingly, we learned hereby that our affectionate, believing, and honorable grand ambassador, your humble servant, Damian Hugo Graf von Virmont, our active private councilor in our war council and a chief of the infantry troops, who was sent and dispatched to the side of his majestic excellencies, departed from your side and set out on the road.

[Likewise,] the grand ambassador of your majestic excellencies on our side, your servant Ibrahim Pasha, who is honored with the honorific rank of Governor of Rumelia (Rūm-ili beglerbegiligi pāyesiyle), performed his ceremonies of messengership in the best way as required. On our side, after he is shown veneration and generosity in accordance with his reputation and rank and in congruence with our royal honor and dignity, to whatever extent kindness and generosity were executed and displayed for him by us during his residence on our side, it is again deemed appropriate to bestow upon the aforesaid ambassador that same kindness and generosity at his time of return.

The aforesaid ambassador submitted and expressed in detail also how your majestic excellencies work and wish goodwill with great effort and pure-hearted sincerity both to protect and preserve the peace and amity, and to guard and reinforce the matter of commerce.

At this moment, it is desired that the subjects of both sides who are given into [our] safekeeping by the ever-living God and who were formerly weeping and moaning under the burden of war and heavy combat will henceforward get together and collect the delicious fruits of peace and prosperity and it is expected that the friendship concluded and stabilized through the mediation of the two sides' messengers of illustrious glory shall be constant and sustain until the agreed and pledged time, and, if God wills and favors, its duration shall be longer.

From this time forward, our utmost care and diligence in protecting and defending peace and amity will not fall shorter and be lesser than the work and services of your excellencies. The aforesaid Ibrahim Pasha will submit and express to you at his arrival how we, as much as possible, do our best truthfully and pure-heartedly for the protection and defense of the aforesaid peace and amity and that no permission is given by us to any condition or movement that may cause new sorrows and troubles for our subjects who just found salvation and recovered from miseries great calamities.

After that, as the aforesaid Ibrahim Pasha is essentially embellished with praiseworthy morals and admirable manners and adorned with utmost cautiousness and perceptiveness, it is our friendly wish from your majestic excellencies that, for our sake, the sultanic favors and benevolence about him shall be abundant and manifest.

In the end, we pray wholeheartedly that the duration of [your] reign shall be for many years, [your] sultanic government shall go on with perfect health and welfare and shall attain many felicitous blessings and fortunes, and all of the deeds that you are favorably disposed towards and the precautions you took for the sake of peace and prosperity shall go on as intended and desired.

Written in our city of Vienna

on the tenth day of April in the year one thousand seven hundred twenty, in the ninth year of the government of the Roman realm, the seventeenth year of Spanish government, and the ninth year of the government of Hungarian and Czech lands.
