Comment: | "St. Alexander Nevski" Cathedral, built in Neo-Byzantine style as a cross-domed basilica, serves as the cathedral church of the Patriarch of Bulgaria. Construction started in 1882, but the main building activities took place between 1904 and 1912. Saint Alexander Nevsky (1220 - 1263) was a Russian prince. The cathedral was created in honour of the Russian soldiers who died during the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877 - 1878. The photograph was taken from "St. Cyril and St. Methodius" National Library. The Monument of the Saints is in the foreground. |
