Description: | Panorama photograph of a large one-storey building with the dome of a Synagogue visible behind it. There are people in rural and urban clothes in the streets outside the building. Many trucks are parked along the right side of the building. Title in Bulgarian and French. |
Comment: | The construction of the Central Market Hall, which spreads across an area of 3,200 m², started in 1909, based on the plans of architect Naum Torbov (selected in 1907). It was completed in 1911. The Sofia Synagogue was built for the Bulgarian capital's mainly Sephardic Jewish community. The planning architect was Austrian-born Friedrich Grünanger. The Synagoge resembles the old Moorish Leopoldstädter Temple in Vienna and was officially opened on 9 September 1909. Recto on the postcard: stamp with the name of the photographer. In the lower right corner: "Neubert" - probably the publisher. |
