| Comment: | Opalchentsi were Bulgarian voluntary army units, who took part in the Serbo-Ottoman War of 1876 and the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877–1878. The people in these units were called opalchenets-pobornik meaning "volunteer combatant". The photograph was taken in front of the monument dedicated to Alexander II, known as Alexander the Liberator - the Emperor of the Russian Empire from March 3, 1855 until his assassination in 1881. |
