Comment: | Opalchentsi were Bulgarian voluntary army units who took part in the Serbo-Ottoman War in 1876 and in the Russo-Ottoman War in 1877 – 1878. The men in these units were called opalchenets-pobornik, meaning "volunteer combatant". Comment from the Archive: "The parade march is in front of General Nikolai Stoletov". Nikolai Grigorevich Stoletov (1834 - 1912) was General in the Imperial Russian Army. After the end of the Russo-Ottoman War 1877 - 1878, Stoletov became Lieutenant General. |
