Comment: | Jovan Ilić (1824, Resnik – 1901, Belgrade) of Niš and Podgorica descent became a famous Serbian poet and playwright. During his studies in Vienna he was influenced by Vuk Karadžić and agreed with national ambitions and slavophile movements of different Slavic peoples. Upon his return to Serbia he first started working as professor and later became a politician. His home became a meeting place of the literary, the artistic and theatre world, where besides his sons also the poets Stevan Sremac, Janko Veselinović and others gathered. | Relations: | /o:vase.1491 |
