Object:Studio portrait of two ladies
Description:Full-length shot of two young women wearing tailored dresses. One of them is sitting on a parapet, which is covered with a ćilim (woven tapestry-style rug), holding a parasol on her lap. She is resting her feet on an artificial rock. Her hat has been placed on the ćilim next to her. The other woman is standing beside her, holding a parasol and a hat. A painted canvas backdrop is depicting a park. There is another rug on the floor in front of the women.
Comment:Photograph kept in photo album no. 22369, which belonged to the Zorić family. Svetozar Zorić (1853, Titel–1931, Belgrade) studied mechanical engineering and worked in Western Europe before returning to Serbia, where he became an Honorary Professor at the Technical University of Belgrade after working for the national railway company. He was very much interested in painting and encouraged his niece Nadežda Petrović and his daughter Milica Zorić in their artistic ambitions. Both became very famous artists.
