Object:Group portrait of Darinka Jovanović and her children
Description:Full-length shot of a woman and three children. The woman is sitting in a wooden armchair, holding a baby on her lap. Two boys are standing beside her on a kind of wooden bench which is partly covered with a ćilim (woven tapestry-style rug). One of the boys is dressed in a dark suit, while the other one is wearing a sailor-style shirt. The woman is dressed in a dark, floor-length dress and the baby is wearing a white tunic. The boys are holding each other's hands. A painted canvas backdrop is creating the impression of the scene being set indoors.
Comment:Darinka Jovanović, née Hadži Kostić, was the wife of Milan Jovanović (1863, Vršac – 1944, Belgrade), who was one of the most influential photographers of his generation and worked as a court photographer in his studio in Belgrade. They had four children together; three of them are in this picture: Stevan, Dušan and Pavle.
