Object:Funeral procession in Sargadžije
Description:A dženaza dominates the background of this photograph taken in the Sargadžije mahalla. The street is full of men in traditional local or European dress accompanying the coffin. They are seen from the back as they pass the photographer, who is following them with his lens. At a few metres distance, young boys in shabby clothes also watch the procession. Directly in front of the photographer's lens, an elegant man in a light coat and tie is climbing the curb from the street, looking straight into the camera. The far background consists of a row of residential houses, the nearest featuring a sign for a tailor's workshop.
Comment:It is unclear whether the elegant man is posing for the picture or whether he has been taken by surprise. His slightly astonished look indicates the latter. Analogue photographic process, negative-positive (Agfa Isopan 17 DIN). Original preserved as a positive on silver bromine paper, stored as a print and a digital record.
