Object:Archpriest Pera Marković blessing an airplane
Description:Picture of archpriest Pera Marković taken from behind as he performs the blessing of an airplane, watched by a large group of men, women and a few children dressed for a festive occasion. The scene is unfolding on an airfield in front of an aircraft hangar. The archpriest, wearing a cap and ceremonial gown, holds a bunch of basil in his hand and is extending it towards the front of the plane. A man in a dark suit is standing next to a table to the left of the archpriest, assisting him. The onlookers are dressed in elegant summer clothes, in both light and dark suits, and at least one is in military uniform. The three men lined up directly next to the aircraft are wearing knickerbockers.
Comment:The photograph was published as part of a report in the daily Vreme on the inauguration of a new air transport service between Belgrade and Skopje. The ceremony was attended by politicians and army and trade officials from the Belgrade Aero Klub and the Air Traffic Association ('Društvo za vazdušni saobraćaj'). The first passengers to fly from Belgrade to Skopje included journalists from the leading Belgrade newspapers Vreme, Politika and Pravda.
