Object:Buying chickens on 'Zeleni Venac' Market
Description:An older woman in peasant costume, including a white headscarf and opanci, is offering a bundle of chickens to a lady in a white summer dress in Zeleni venac. She holds the chickens upside down, tied by their feet, and with the end of the string around her finger. She is carrying a yoke on her left shoulder, with two large baskets suspended from it. She uses her right arm to fix the yoke and at the same time to nicely present the chickens to her customer. The lady is standing close in front of her, using both hands to examine one of the birds. She wears a white cloche hat and a handbag on her right arm, and has deposited her shopping basket on the ground next to her. There are market stalls in the background, a boy is selling vegetables, and a barefoot Roma girl is strolling along the path.
Comment:The woman is selling live chickens.
