Object:Little girl draws the lottery at Darülfünun
Description:A little girl in a white dress is standing behind a big lottery box. There are only few tickets left. In the background, spectators are watching the events in theatre seating.
Comment:The event is the Aviators’ New Year Lottery (Yılbaşı Tayyare Piyangosu), which in the 1930s took place in the conference room of Darülfünun. The exact year is hard to establish, but Cumhuriyet reported on the event with a picture on 1 January of every year throughout the decade. The lottery of the Turkish Aviators’ Society (Türk Tayyare Cemiyeti) was established in 1926.
