| Comment: | The photograph was shot in the context of two articles that appeared in Cumhuriyet in August 1939 reporting on military defence operations against air raids and chemical weapons attacks. An Egyptian army delegation led by Major General Hasan Hüsnü Ezzeydi attended the manoeuvres as guests. Cumhuriyet covered the military exercise in great detail, announcing which action was to take place in which part of town and at what time. |
