Object:Inquisitive currency smuggler
Description:A group of men dressed in long coats are walking down a street. Most are hiding their faces with their hats. A young man in the middle of the picture, only half protected by the brim of his hat, throws an inquisitive glance towards the photographer. In the background towers the silhouette of Hagia Sophia.
Comment:The photograph was taken in the context of an article printed in Cumhuriyet with the title, ‘First Turkish ship made on special initiative’. The vessel was financed by the lawyer Etemin Belkis and was hailed by the newspaper as the first boat of its kind constructed on Turkish initiative.
