Comment: | The photograph was shot in the context of an article printed in Cumhuriyet with the title, ‘Yesterday the city once again witnessed a fire catastrophe’. The facade belonged to the konak of Adil Paşa and was located on Tavukçu Street. The fire broke out in the Sultanahmet district on 9 June 1934 in a house allegedly rented by a certain Fehrettin Bey. Due to strong winds, the whole neighbourhood was set alight within moments. |
