Facade in the air
| Description: | A group of firemen wearing black uniforms and helmets have torn down the facade of a gutted wooden two-storey house with a long rope. The entire facade is in the air and just about to hit the ground. One fireman is running towards the camera, the others are attentively observing the scene. |

| Comment: | The photograph was shot in the context of an article printed in Cumhuriyet with the title, ‘Yesterday the city once again witnessed a fire catastrophe’. The facade belonged to the konak of Adil Paşa and was located on Tavukçu Street. The fire broke out in the Sultanahmet district on 9 June 1934 in a house allegedly rented by a certain Fehrettin Bey. Due to strong winds, the whole neighbourhood was set alight within moments. |
