Ramadan drummer approaching a door
Description: | A Ramadan drummer is beating a large davul in a cobbled lane, walking towards a stone house with a wooden door from the right. A second man is standing directly in front of the door, his back to the photographer, turning his head to the right. Two boys stand in front of him in the open door, one of them scratching his forehead, the second peeping towards the camera. A third boy in a coat, halfway between the camera and the man, is walking towards the door. |

Comment: | The picture accompanied an article in Cumhuriyet with the title 'Impressions of yesterday’s holiday'. The legend reads: 'Collecting bahşış (tips) with drum and zurna'. Ramadan drummers and musicians traditionally walk the streets to wake up the inhabitants in time for sahur, the last meal before sunrise and a day of fasting. |
