Object:Scouts parading in Bahçekapı
Description:A scout parade in the neighbourhood of Bahçekapı, Fatih. The parade is headed by a boy and a girl scout, each carrying a flag of the Turkish Republic in their right hands and wearing a sash with the motto ‘Ameli Hayat’ (practical life) across their chests. They are flanked by two girl scouts, each carrying a wooden baton of about 1.5 metres in length. More scouts carrying wind instruments and drums follow behind. Bystanders are watching the scene.
Comment:The parade most likely took place on the occasion of the Day of Youth and Sports (Gençlik ve spor bayramı) on 19 May. The motto ‘Ameli Hayat’ indicates that the scouts were affiliated with the school of that name.
