Turkey seller

Description:Street market scene probably taken from the window of an adjacent stone building. The camera has focused on a flock of turkeys guarded by a man leaning against the wall beneath the photographer, in the lower left corner of the picture. The man has thrown his coat over his right shoulder and is looking towards the poultry, his face turned away from the camera. His clothes are tattered. He is wearing a flat cap and holds a stick in his hand. Several men and a boy are grouped around the scene near the curb. Two of them have torn clothes and are also holding sticks. They are probably part of the man's party, like the boy and the little girl in a patterned dress on the other side of the flock. Two men, one of them elegantly dressed in a coat and hat, examine the turkeys. Two more vendors can be seen in the frame, one on the right margin, the other in the upper left corner. The latter scene includes a sheep. Both these groups are flanked by a porter boy with a large basket on his back waiting for customers.
Comment:The poultry seller and his party are probably Roma.
