< Back"Knez Vohun prisega."
Location | Maribor (Marburg) |
Description | Photograph of men and women in idealized medieval dress holding banners and saluting a man standing on a stone with the Slavic tricolor in front of him. |
Comment | Reenactment of Prince Volkun taking an oath at the Prince's Stone (Fürstenstein/Knežji kamen). This reenactment took place in Maribor on April 19, 1914 and commemorated the 500th anniversary of the enthronement of the Habsburg Duke Ernst the Iron, the last duke of Carinthia to be enthroned according to a Carantanian rite. Carantania was a Slavic principality that emerged in the seventh century. In Slovene nationalist discourse, it is seen as part of a glorious and distant past before the Slavs (and therefore the Slovenes) were conquered by Bavarian Germans. |
