"Živa slika "Slovenija""
| Location | Maribor (Marburg) |
| Description | Image of men and women in idealized medieval dress holding banners and saluting a woman holding a flag and standing above a coat of arms. |
| Comment | Photograph of a reenactment in Maribor on April 19, 1914 commemorating the 500th anniversary of the enthronement of the Habsburg Duke Ernst the Iron, the last duke of Carinthia to be enthroned according to Carantanian rite. The woman in the center of the photograph is meant to personify Slovenia, and the shield beneath her contains the coats of arms of the regions ruled by the Dukes of Carinthia. Carantania was a Slavic principality that emerged in the seventh century. In Slovene nationalist discourse, it is seen as part of a glorious and distant past before the Slavs (and therefore the Slovenes) were conquered by Bavarian Germans. |
