LocationCelje (Cilli)
Description Tinted drawing of the Slovene flag with a parorama of Celje, an image of the Narodni Dom, and a drawing of an eagle holding a shield, which are symbols of the Sokol movement in Slovenia.
CommentThe sender included the Slavic salute Na zdar!, the ritualized salutation of the Sokol movement. Following the Czech example of the Sokol movement, a Slovene nationalist gymnastic association called Južni Sokol [Southern Falcon] was founded in 1863. A network of local Sokol chapters then spread throughout what was considered Slovene territory in Cisleithania, the Austrian part of the empire.
