She reported that seven years ago, in the small town of Bihar district in Upper Hungary, she and her nine-year-old daughter were captured by the Tatars and taken to Edirne, where they were sold together to a Jew from Sofia, Baldehal Salamon(?), for 120 kuruş. Later, Salamon kept the daughter but sold the woman to a Jew named Rābiil Abrahām(?), who lives in Edirne.A Christian woman named Dercef Katne(?), originally from Hungary, has sent a petition to my imperial court. She reported this act as a violation of the imperial letter of agreement and requested my imperial decree for action to be taken in accordance with the imperial letter of agreement.Upon reviewing the imperial letter of agreement, it has been recorded and written as follows: It is permissible for captives held by others to be released through appropriate means and with a reasonable and moderate manumission price. If an agreement cannot be reached with the captive owner and a dispute arises, the judge of that place should assign his staff to resolve the matter. If this fails, the owners must prove the price they paid, or they should be made to swear an oath to confirm the price, after which the manumission price should be paid and the captive released. Therefore, I order that this matter be handled in accordance with my imperial letter of agreement. So is the decree. The rest has been referred to the imperial letter of agreement. 9–18 August 1700
