Project partners have granted the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences permission to publish facsimile data within the QhoD project. Employees of this publically funded institution took images of archival sources or collected digitized items, and created descriptive metadata. The contents of the archival sources are not subject to copyright restrictions under Austrian law (Urheberrechtsgesetz), as the creators both of their ideal contents and their documentary material objects passed away more than 70 years ago (§§60-61 UrhG), and these materials are considered documents for official use (§7 UrhG). The promised bill of exchange has still not arrived, although Kurtz is strapped for cash due to terrible inflation and the gifts for the fast-changing dignitaries at the Porte. Grand vizier Kemankeş Ali was executed by order of the sultan, and Çerkez Mehmed received the position. As he is about to leave for the front, the most important man at the Porte will be the new kaymakam, both of whom will have to be gifted. He wants to leave urgently, without money his activities in Constantinople are completely impossible. He requests that a trustworthy person with the necessary money shall be sent to him from Vienna. Since the Ottomans will not let him leave the city, he asks for more information about the actions of the Ottoman troops and Gábor Bethlen. Kurtz asks the emperor to urge his departure from Constantinople. Since his last letter, Bethlen has sent an envoy to the sultan, citing Ferdinand II’s preparations against him and the Ottomans, which Kurtz officially denies. The Porte could not risk war with the emperor because of the rebel Abaza Hassan, the Persian front and the incursions of the Cossacks. PS. The bill of exchange of 10,000 ducats sent to him by Hieronymus Bonacina through Venetian merchants has not been cashed by anyone in Constantinople, he urges money in cash and appropriate punishment for those responsible.
