6 febbraio ’99 Mio carissimo,

And truely whomesœur I perceive to bee an eagre adversarie to Erasmus writinges, I (as my poore judgemente leadeth me) cannot but suppose the same to be an indurate enemie to the ghospell, whiche Erasmus dooeth according to the measure and porcion of his talente faithfully labour to set foorth and promote”». I due esempi shakespeariani compaiono a p. 16, note 4 e 5: 1) Love’s labour’s lost, IV, 2, 64: «a rare talent!»; 2) Twelth Night, I, 5, 16: «Well, God give them wisdom that have it; and those that are fools, let them use their talents».. (pp. 14-15, nota 1): Walter W. Skeat, An Etymological Dictionary of the Engish Language, 2a ed., Oxford, Clarendon, 1884; Samuel Johnson, Dictionary of the English Language […], 2 voll., Heidelberg, Engelmann, 1828; Charles Richardson, A New Dictionary of the English Language […], 2a ed., London, Pickering, 1844.

Nulla so di Gustavo Meyer. A che punto si trova?

Addido di cuore e in gran fretta

Il tuo aff.mo F. d’O. Napoli Largo Latilla 6
