The Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language”. I am going to join it also in November - Can the name of this place Laodunum or Laudunum be a mixture of Basque laur, four, and Keltic dun a fortified hill - Even to this day the description of “the hill of the 4 fortresses” is applicable to it and I find in the “Dictionnaire Historique du département de l’Aisne” par Melleville many ancient names of places round here which look very like Euskarian. May not Keltic dun be connected with Basque dun = possessor, keeper just as in English a donjon-tower is called a “keep”? In primitive times the possessors were those who held the fortified hills. I found Ba and Bai and Ba oui, Bai oui used in ile de Noirmôutier for “yes” = si, oui, and I have heard Bai oui, Ba oui used in many parts of the west and north of France, even at Paris, chiefly in the Loire valley so used - may not it be a relic of Basque? or can Basque bai itself come from Latin bene? - is Sclavonic da = yes the Basque da = it is (so)? Is not Erse ta the same as Basqueda? and Aṫαir, a father = aita? May not Euskara be hus or haus-ik-a-ra-a? = the language one uses towards a neighbur or member of the same house or clan? as opposed to erdi-a-ra-a that towards an outsider?
