Dear Sir,
Many thanks for the pamphlet which you have sent me on your work ,Slawo-deutsches und Slawo-italienisches‘. I have read it with much interest. You complain that I have misunderstood you: I therefore retract the remarks I made. As |2| regards your philological investigations I can only say that I always read them with great pleasure and you have no heartier admirer than myself. On p. 333 you speak of the sound of the Polish l (grobes l) being heard in German dialects. It can be heard also in some of the English, e. g. in the pronunciation by people of the lower classes of the word wall (mauer).
And now, wishing to be on friendly terms, I remain
yours very truly
W. R. Morfill
Perhaps I may be able to send you occasionally a note on our dialect which may interest you.
