Dear Sir

I have received your letter of the 4^th February and done my best to obtain for you the information as to Indo-Portuguese which you desire – I regret that I have failed in getting anything but the enclosed note from Mr Campbell² , of the Bombay Secretariat, to my Colleague Mr. Gibbs³. It strikes me that, next to Dr Gerson da Cunha⁴, the best person to apply to, would be Dr Burnell⁵, the distinguished Sanskritist, who is now in Europe. He has, I know, paid some attention do Portuguese as well to Konkaní⁶ - G. da Cunhas pamphlet on which I send you by |2| bookpost as the Portuguese loan-words in that dialect may be interesting to you.

I trust that, in spite of Prof. Zimmer’s brutal rudeness to Prof. Windisch⁷, you will pursue your Irish studies &, from time to time, publish the results. The harvest is great, but the labourers are few. I have sent you through Windisch a copy of my edition oft the Togail Troi⁸ which though full of faults, will, I trust, be of some little use to students of Middle- Irish.

I leave this country for |3|England on the 28^th of this month. From 20^th to 31^st of May my address will be “5 Merrion Square North-Dublin.” After 31^st May it will be “9 Crick Road, Oxford” –
