Abstract

Sokollu Mehmed Pasha complains to Maximilian that he is harboring Gáspár Bekes and János Balassa and claims, that they have undertaken raids from Habsburg territory with the help of German troops. It was only after Mustafa Pasha had taken the latter’s castles that the sultan’s bellicose disposition was somewhat appeased and he extended the peace with Maximilian at the grand vizier’s insistence. Although he, Mehmed Pasha, has endeavored to keep the peace, Maximilian has constantly violated his conditions and had not sent Gáspár Bekes and the voyvod Bogdan back to the Porte. From now on, all offenders on both sides ought to be punished so that it would serve as an example to others. In an appendix dated November 28, an exchange of prisoners and financial demands between the Cheyvan Wayvoda and the young count of Zrim are also reported.
