Abstract

Sokollu Mehmed Pasha protests against the construction of the palanka in Kalo (Nagykálló) in violation of the treaty and against the destruction of the Grenizce/Garanzscha castle and demands the release of all prisoners, including Ibrahim Agha, Kurd Agha, Ferhad Agha and the brother of Emin Mustafa of Solnok. He recalls the rigorous measures taken by the Ottomans after similar incidents: the sanjak-bey of Bosna, for example, was deposed because of a serious border incident; his successor Ferhad Bey released 150 prisoners. He accuses Maximilian, unlike his father, of not enforcing and monitoring the peace strictly enough. Furthermore, he protests against the torture of Muslim prisoners, demands the razing of the palanke of Nagykálló, the release of the Bosnian prisoners and the extradition of Gáspár Bekes and Bogdan.
