1 Zotero
The literature hosted in Zotero provides an overview of, and the possibility to export, the publications cited in the introduction to the Compendium historiae in genealogia Christi, the critical edition, and the database of manuscript witnesses.
As this is an ongoing project the literature will be updated continuously.
The Zotero folder includes duplicates because certain publications reference more than one manuscript containing the Compendium. Thus, the publication is listed under the different subfolders for the different manuscripts.
2 Work
The primary and secondary literature listed under ‘work’ corresponds to the introduction to the work written by Eleanor Goerss. In Zotero the publications are organized by subchapter.
3 Edition
The sources and their editions listed under ‘edition’ are those referenced in the critical text by Agnese Machiarelli.
4 Manuscripts
The manuscripts of the Compendium are listed by sigla in Zotero. Each folder contains the publications used to date the relevant witness. In the database, these publications are referenced with the author’s last name and page number. Significant printed catalogues and other essential literature are also included for some manuscript witnesses in Zotero. Pages numbers and figures are stated in the notes.
The database includes links to manuscript images and online catalogue information. The online catalogue, however, is only listed in Zotero if it is also the source of the manuscript’s dating.
5 General Literature
The following list gives an overview of the studies of the Compendium. While Moore’s 1936 publication represented the first overview of Peter of Poitiers’ works, Vollmer had, five years earlier, already examined aspects of the German translation of the Compendium. Other scholars provided updated lists of manuscripts (Stegmüller, Hilpert, Alidori, Monroe). Hilpert and Panatayova focused their work on the English witnesses, and Alidori and Monroe examined art historical aspects of the Compendium corpus. Worm’s recent studies both situate the Compendium in the broader tradition of visual chronicles (see also Fossier), as well as investigate aspects of medium and meaning.
