Object:Advertisement for the feature film ‘Na granice’
Description:The leaflet features a frameless collage of three images. In the foreground, a Soviet soldier in uniform with the Soviet star on his cap gazes into the distance. Behind him on the left is a young couple on the fringes of a forest. The man is wearing a round dark cap and has a belt across his right shoulder; the woman is in a loose light-coloured blouse with polka dots and is wearing a necklace. They are gazing wide-eyed at something. Behind the soldier to the right is an Asian man with a moustache. He is wearing a round dark cap, different to that worn by the young man, and a wide dark coat. His mouth is half open and he appears to be looking at something to his left. The two lines printed across the lower section of the image announce the ‘Soviet film’, ‘At the frontier’ (in the Russian original: ‘На границе’) – in Serbo-Croatian, ‘Na granici’.
Comment:The graphic illustration is in the style of Socialist Realism – the only style of realistic art permitted in the Soviet Union at that time. The film was directed by Александр Иванов (Aleksandr Ivanov) and released in 1938.
