Help for the semantic search

The semantic search can be used either as a full text search via the search field in the navigation bar or as a URI search via the links on the website (from registers, letters, etc.). In contrast to the advanced letter search, not only letters are being found, but also all entities that contain the searched text or to which the corresponding URI has been assigned.

Full Text Search

Case sensitivity is not important in the search.

If multiple keywords are entered, they must be separated with whitespace. All entered keywords are logically linked with AND. A phrase search by the exact word order is not possible.

There is a possibility of right truncation with the character *. The asterisk symbol serves as a placeholder for any number of characters, but must not appear at the beginning or in the middle of the word.

Example: searching for the string Karl* results in results with the exact value Karl, as well as with derivatives and compounds such as Karlsbad. This search query therefore returns results in multiple categories: Persons with first or last name Karl in the index of persons, the bibliography and correspondence, the place Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) in the index of places, and keywords from the thesaurus in which Karl occurs (e.g., publishers)

Results are organized by the categories Correspondence, Persons, Places, Bibliography, Languages et Keywords. Checking and unchecking the checkboxes will show and hide the search results for the respective category. If there are letters associated with the found entities from the tabs, they will be listed under Tagged letters. Please note that the displayed hits will be limited if their amount is too high, and refine your query if necessary.

URI search

In contrast to the full text search, the URI search operates with the unique identifier that entities receive in the system, e.g. with a person or place ID. This search is used, for example, for internal references in the registers or thesauri. Found with the URI are the named entity and the letters containing the entity. Example: If one selects the button Search in the place register under the place Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary), one receives the letters that link to this entity.
