Fulltext Search

Simple search criteria

The search is not case-sensitive. Search terms must comprise at least 3 characters.

When entering multiple keywords, use blanks as separators. Strings containing punctuation marks are automatically segmented into individual components (tokenized).

All keywords are automatically linked with a logical AND.

The results are ordered by the frequency of the occurrences of the search term.

Phrase search

A phrase search is performed when multiple keywords are placed in quotation marks. The entered search terms appear in the result in the exact word order.

Example: The phrase search for the letter signature 01-00014 finds documents that contain exactly the number given. The search without quotation marks also finds documents that contain the numbers 01 or 00014 in non-exact sequence because the simple full-text search performs tokenization and the entered values are split at blanks or punctuation marks and linked with logical AND.

Truncation

Search terms can be truncated using the characters * and ?. The asterisk serves as a placeholder for any number of characters, while the question mark replaces one specific character. Neither truncation operator may be used at the beginning of a word, but combining both operators is possible.

Boolean Operators

The search interface can handle the logical operators AND, OR, and NOT to refine the query.

Advanced Search

To further limit the results, values can be selected from the alphabetical dropdown in the fields Sender, Addressee, Place of Sender, and Language. The field Keyword suggests values from the keyword thesaurus when typing. The field Year allows you to search for the date the letter was sent by entering one or more years (e.g. 1885).

All search fields are linked with AND.
