Description:Full length shot of a man in folk attire with traditional peasant shoes (tsarvuli) and leggings. He is carrying a pistol in his belt and holding a sword in his left and a long rifle in his right hand. A painted canvas backdrop is creating the illusion of the scene being set in nature.
Comment:Vasil Levski, born Vasil Ivanov Kunchev (1837 - 1873), was a Bulgarian revolutionary who ideologized and strategized the Bulgarian revolutionary movement against the Ottoman Empire. He was a founder of the Bulgarian Intern Revolutionary Organization. Levski is a national hero of Bulgaria and considered the Apostle of Freedom.
