Object:Studio portrait of a man in folk attire
Description:Full length shot of an elderly man with a long moustache, wearing dark folk attire with a belt, light-coloured leggings, and traditional peasant shoes (tsarvuli). He is also wearing a fur cap and has thrown a coat over his right shoulder. He is standing in front of a painted canvas backdrop, which creates the illusion of the scene being set in nature. He is holding a shepherd's staff in his left hand.
Comment:Verso: hand-written inscription [probably by Konstantin Josef Jireček]: "fig. 13 / Philipopel." An identical photograph is kept at the Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art, Vienna. The photograph is published under the title "Male attire from Zlatitsa region" in the Bulgarian newspaper "Nasheto parvo izlozhenie" (Our First Fair), Plovdiv, 1892/43, 7.
