Comment:Opalchentsi were Bulgarian voluntary army units who took part in the Serbo-Ottoman War in 1876 and in the Russo-Ottoman War in 1877 – 1878. The men in these units were called opalchenets-pobornik, meaning "volunteer combatant". Vasil Levski, born Vasil Ivanov Kunchev (1837 - 1873), was a revolutionary; he is a national hero of Bulgaria, honored as "the Apostle of Freedom". The Monument to Vasil Levski in Sofia was inaugurated on October 22, 1895.
