Description:Full-length shot of a man and a woman standing in a garden in front of an overgrown brick wall, behind which a house is partly visible. Both are dressed in simple town attire, he wearing a suit with a bow tie and she wearing a dark, long-sleeved dress.
Comment:Milan Jovanović (1863, Vršac – 1944, Belgrade) was one of the most influential photographers of his generation and worked as a court photographer in his studio in Belgrade. He was one of three sons of Ernestina Deot and Stevan Jovanović, a photographer who owned a photo studio in Vršac. His brother Pavle, better known as Paja Jovanović, became one of the most famous Serbian realist painters. Milan had four children with his wife Darinka, née Hadži Kostić, who was the daughter of Stevan Hadži Kostić.
