Object:Carrying the kurban, Beyoğlu
Description:Portrait of a man carrying an imposing ram on his shoulders in the streets of Beyoğlu. The shot was taken just as the man passed the photographer: both he and the ram look straight into the camera. The ram forms the centre of the image, the man is in shadow with only his head and shoulder partly to be seen. He is wearing a flat cap, a striped shirt and a V-neck pullover. The street is dominated by a large imperial building to the left. A man in a dark coat and hat is walking in the same direction, at some distance.
Comment:The picture was most probably taken for Kurban bayramı. Preparations for this religious holiday and the start of festivities were reported in short articles and pictures that sometimes reappeared a year or two later on the same or similar occasions.
