Object:Officials in gas masks tend to a victim
Description:A man in his underwear, eyes closed, is lying on a stretcher on the pavement. His shirt is pushed up, revealing his bare belly. Five officials in gas masks, three in uniform and two in protective suits, are tending to him. One of the latter is sitting on the curb, preparing something to apply to the man on the stretcher. A uniform and socks are lying on the sidewalk behind the group.
Comment:The photograph was shot in the context of two articles that appeared in Cumhuriyet in August 1939 reporting on military defence operations against air raids and chemical weapons attacks. Cumhuriyet covered the military exercise in great detail, announcing which action was to take place in which part of town and at what time.
