Object:Ramadan drummers in the mahalla
Description:Two Ramadan drummers with davuls and flat caps in a cobbled mahalla lane turn towards a man and a girl standing in front of a door. The man has his right hand in his pocket, perhaps searching for a few coins. All have turned their heads towards the camera. A few metres down the lane, a courtyard with bare trees surrounded by a dry stone wall can be seen in front of a large building.
Comment:Photographs of Ramadan musicians were often printed on the first day of Ramadan celebrations. Ramadan drummers traditionally walk the streets to wake up the inhabitants in time for sahur, the last meal before sunrise and a day of fasting.
