< Back"Maribor ob Dravi"
Location | Maribor (Marburg) |
Description | Photograph of the Reichsbrücke (now the Old Bridge) over the Drava River in Maribor. |
Comment | A Hungarian postage stamp is affixed to the recto and a caption with Maribor ob Dravi was later stamped on it. The postmark demonstrates the political changes occurring after 1918: The old postmarks were still in use until Slovene versions with the transliterated Cyrillic letters were introduced around 1920. Before then, the German toponyms on the old postmarks were scratched off and continued to be used. Pre-1918 postmarks in Maribor and some other locations were only in German, and thus had no place names until new postmarks were produced. In philately, this is known as a mute postmark. |
