Description:The leaflet shows a framed portrait illustration of the Russian writer Maksim Gorky. He is wearing a shirt, a necktie and a jacket or waistcoat. His face is dominated by an impressive moustache. The name of the film, ‘Maksim Gorki’ (in the Russian original: ‘Максим Горкий’), is written in Serbo-Croatian across the lower part of the picture.
Comment:The film was directed by Самуил Бубрик (Samuil Bubrik) and released in 1940. The drawing is in the style of Socialist Realism – the only style of realistic art permitted in the Soviet Union at that time.
