He was married to Nevena Andreeva Dimitrova. Kolchev became general director of the Bulgarian State Railways and Ports (~ 1935 - 1944) and Minister of the State Railway, Postal- and Telegraphic Services (1944). Boris Kolchev and a number of former cabinet ministers and royal advisors were sentenced to death by a "People's Tribunal" in January 1945 and executed on 2 February.
