Danail Nikolaev (1852 - 1942) was a Bulgarian opalchenets-pobornik, meaning "volunteer combatant", in the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877 – 1878. He became an officer in the Russian Imperial and in the Bulgarian Armies. He was Minister of War of Bulgaria twice (1886 - 1887 and 1907 - 1911) and the first person to attain the highest rank in the Bulgarian military, General of the Infantry (1909).
